Medical Attention

We have arranged with the local government to support village health technician visits to Karambi to address the health related needs of the community with a specific focus on the needs of women and children.

Hygiene Training

General guidance and instruction on hand washing, washing dishes and kitchen cleanliness, personal hygiene, etc. This training is being coordinated with local experts. Following the training we will subsidize the purchase of soap and necessary items to maintain hygiene. 

Tailor shop and Hairdressing salon

Our mid-term goal (3-6 months) is to rent two small shops at the Karambi central trading center to provide training and small business initiatives. We will purchase a few sewing machines and hairdressing supplies and hire trainers for a 3-6 month period. When their courses are complete, the women can book equipment and use time to make their clothes or to do the hairdressing and kick-start their business. 

Maternity ward / waiting shelter at the health center.

The maternity ward is a building separate from the general health center, where women come with one or two family members usually a week before their due date to make sure they are already in place when labor comes. In this particular case, we shall combine the waiting shelter with the labor and maternity rooms.

Menstrual Pads

We shall ensure that all girls have access to menstrual pads at school so they do not have to be embarrassed or go home should their period come.
